The amateur connoisseur
Jeroen
For 13 years dutch-born Jeroen lived in the the land of “the long white cloud” and the land of the Sauvignon blanc: New Zealand. Whenever possible he visited vineyards in regions such as the Hawke’s Bay, the Wairarapa and Marlborough. He enjoyed the tastings and the degustation menus with the recommended wine match at the Vineyards. Although he can be considered as a fairly active person that likes to ski and hike in the mountains or go paragliding, he equally loves to have a BBQ with friends and an easy to drink wine. Less than two years ago, Jeroen moved to Switzerland.
“Having arrived recently in Switzerland and barely speaking the local language (working on it!!) I have to learn not only a new language but I also needed to discover new wines I may like. Visiting the Lavaux vineyards so far has been great, trying the wines combined with the scenery is something very special. Trying to read the labels has however proven pretty pointless to me so it is all about my own taste combined with “the occasion” when drinking wine.”
Wines that Jeroen likes
After work
easy to drink, not too costly like a Sauvignon blanc
Aperitif
Chasselas!
For celebrating
Champagner or Prosecco. I like those days…
For an evening for two
Shiraz or Pinot Noir
Even though he says of himself to be by no means a wine connoisseur, Jeroen gained lots of experiences in wine tasting and is always up for trying out grape varieties he doesn’t know yet and his journey is continuing.
“The wide variety of wines available from so many different countries and regions within countries is what I find fascinating about wine. As well, the way the grapes are grown on the mountain sides or seeing rows and rows of vines is something special.”
Despite his preferences, he usually makes the choice based on the food he’s about to eat, the activity he did prior or simply the weather: red when it’s cold, hot wine (Glühwein) when it’s really cold and white when it’s warm.
“I typically choose the wine I am going to drink depending on the above and do consider the price of the wine. Being Dutch I do like a good deal.”

I definitely want to try this wine again!

Interesting wine on a hot summers day
I tasted this wine on a very hot evening. I liked the looks of the bottle itself to start with which is always a plus. The taste of this wine is fresh at the start which is nice on a warm evening but it is a little acidic towards the end...I definitely want to try this wine again!

A very interesting wine that most red wine lovers would appreciate and those that prefer white or rosé could really like
We tried this beautiful red wine with friends who came over for a more “formal BBQ” (this basically means cooking the meat on the Barbie but eating inside as its too cold to still sit outside) and the Sicilian wine did not disappoint.Everyone was very impressed it was...

Pleasant wine that goes well with something with Cheese
I tasted this wine on a nice but cool spring evening. Prior to tasting I did some research online and also read the label on the bottle in preparation. After reading the description on the bottle and the research online I had to get prepared for an explosion of flavours. (The...Our wine testers
